Mitchell Park
SHoP Architects were awarded the commission for this four acre waterfront park formerly a brownfield site in need of serious remediation as a result of a nationwide design competition in 1996.
QRP was invited to join the team which led to completion of phases one and two. The program required the design of a four acre waterfront park, including a carousel house for the Village’s beloved antique carousel, ferry terminal, seasonal ice rink, harborwalk, amphitheater and water gardens.
The Park is characterized by a careful choice of materials including weathered hardwoods, steel, etched glass, lead coated copper roofing and bluestone with a network of light planks set into the walk. The park has become the focal point for civic activity and recreation in the heart of Greenport Village.
