Three Cats Zoological Exhibits
QRP with architects Goldstone & Hinz developed new exhibits for the Wildlife Conservation Society in two of their existing zoos. These new facilities are designed specifically for highly endangered big cats. The settings for each of these new exhibits are designed to emulate the natural habitats of the animals while responding to the historically significant character of Central Park and Queens Zoo.
Our designs showcase these rare species in landscapes designed to suggest their native mountain and jungle habitats. Large rock outcrops and water features are integrated with plantings and logs to provide a variety of experiences for both animals and visitors. Each of these exhibits are designed in coordination with the animal experts at WCS, their Exhibits and Graphics department and are intended to engage all ages of visitors.
The Snow Leopards are sited among the rock outcrops of Manhattan to refer to their harsh rocky mountainous environment. The Jaguar exhibit, part of a collection of Central and South American animals, evokes the native jungle and grasslands of Central America and the Amur Leopard, at home in the temperate mountainous forests of eastern Russia, is located in a hilly wooded setting.
