Sarah Lawrence College, Heimbold Visual Arts

QRP designed site improvements for Heimbold Visual Arts Center including a terraced intensive green roof that functions as a campus open space and amphitheater, and blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Sustainable features such as recycled stormwater and on-site quarried stone contribute to the LEED-certified building designed by Ennead Architects (formerly Polshek Partnership Architects). Though contemporary in design, the materials and spatial character of the landscape treatment harmonize with adjacent historic campus areas. The building includes ground-floor studios that open onto the new amphitheater.

The firm was also lead consultant for reconstruction of Kimball Avenue, which bisects campus. The project included new streetscape improvements to facilitate safe pedestrian crossing and connect the campus spatially. It also included redesign of the campus main entrance with an innovative signage treatment, designed by the firm, emphasizing the gardenesque character of the campus.
